Strong Towns Blono - Wayfinding Mural Project 2025

“My hope with this project is to inspire a feeling of fun and to encourage play in the viewers. In creating a wayfinding mural, I wanted to celebrate the circus history of Bloomington Normal and uplift the community of artists I am thankful to have grown up with. I hope that these murals will help people of all ages to smile as they travel between the Bloomington Public Library and History Museum.”

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped and offered support. Thank you especially to the custodial staff and security team of the Bloomington Public Library and McLean County History Museum for allowing me storage and cleaning space!

Thank you to volunteer painters Adrienne Alt, Ashley Baldwin, Malia Bermijo, Alex Borland, Danny Bradfield, Gates Daniel, Linnea Dennhardt, Paul Dennhardt, Shea Grehan, Joey Hatch, Hannah Johnson, Morgan Keith, Jean Kerr, Claire Kuhlman, Victoria Lavarier, Katie Lee, Katherine McCarthy, Sami Pierce, Samone Southerland, Jon Stein, Noah Tang, Quinlan Tisdale, Eden Warner, Seth Wheeler.

These murals are a temporary installation commissioned by Strong Towns Blono, a grassroots advocacy group focused on improving communities through bottom-up solutions.

Digital Mural Designs

Before everything was painted, the wayfinding mural was sketched digitally. Here are some of my favorite mock ups for the mural. The magicians rabbit was voted to be named “Hippo” by the people who attended a celebration of the project at the Bloomington Public Library.
